Precision Artistry Supports Elf

Rick and Tira on ElfElf is an 1888 Lawley-built '30-footer' class cutter which has been meticulously restored by Rick Carrion and the Classic Yacht Restoration Guild. Believed to be the oldest racing yacht in America, Elf was re-launched on April 18, 2008.

Elf PlaquePrior to her launch, Tira Mitchell was commissioned to engrave the ship's bell. After the launch, Tira engraved Elf's image into a plate that was then cast and joined with cutoffs of the original wood from Elf that Precision Artistry laser engraved to create totally unique plaques. These plaques have gone to CYRG supoorters who enable Elf to sail today. Working with Rick Carrion, Precision Artistry has continued to make plaques to support Elf. The plaques bear a casting together with genuine logos for Elf and Lawley on the front. The backs are personalized with inscriptions detailing the section of the yacht from which the plaque's wood was salvaged.

Elf will be featured at the 18th Annual Wooden Boat Show at Mystic Seaport from June 26-28, 2009. Tira will be aboard demonstrating engraving techniques and sharing information about Elf. The ship frequently ports in Philadelphia at the Independence Seaport Museum. Her home port is at the Chesapeak Bay Maritime Museum.
